Audism Unveiled
What is Audism? It is the nonion that one is superior based on ones ability to hear and speak or behave in the manner of one who hears and speaks. It was thought of and affect by Tom Humphries. It was added to the different forms of oppression, the others organism racism, sexism and heterosexism. The video does a great job of explaining all the ways and situations it is seen. The one that blow out of the water me the most was or so families of those who argon deaf(p). The older gentleman that told the story about his mother and how he will never know what her tolerate words were was inspiration enough for me to be an advocate for deaf children. In hopes that their families will do all they can to reach with them. The statistic 69% of deaf children live in a property where sign is not used regularly is way excessively high and can drastically be lowered with educating the families in need.
No hands allowed. Due to the fact that those who were deaf did not use their tongues and used their hands instead to communicate, they were seen as being sub-human. Things that were discussed in the video shocked me.
I never completed that those who are deaf were treated in such ways, that they had to strickle a term for such oppression. Deaf individuals were scorned for sign; their hands were swatted with rulers. Doctors thought in order to cure mortal from being deaf that they should go to an oral school. It was very melancholy to see how ones family would not want to learn to be adequate to communicate with their child. I dont believe that utilise your hands to communicate makes you any less of a psyche; I think people just dont understand those who are different.
