The purpose of organizational development is to improve the culture of an organization, (McLean, 2013), and has been defined as â€Å"a complex educational strategy intended to change beliefs, attitudes, values, and structures of an organization† (McLean, 2013, p.7). There are many changes within an organization that occur through natural growth and development through management and other stakeholders; however, they are times when changes must be strategically initiated (McLean, 2013). Organization development is necessary for these strategic changes and is useful to diagnose problems, develop action plans, and cultivate interventions and utilize evaluations to assess improvement (McLean, 2013). Cultural development is a collaborative effort and cannot happen successfully without the participation of the entire organization. Studies have shown that interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships between leaders and groups within a school environment are vital for the development and endurance of a positive culture (Turan Bektas, 2013). Therefore, one of the major facets of organizational development is building relationships (McLean, 2013). For the purpose of this paper, I will discuss the effects of leadership on relationship building within organizations.
