The determination to make is has the lack of competition in the run systems market harmed innovation and armment of the Windows system and XP in particular. I believe that Microsoft has absolutely no motivation to improve Windows XP due to their monopoly in the softw be market, and in the holdation of the next generation of operating system (OS). I will validate my assessment through the articles provided and the background readings.
The monopoly that Microsoft maintains in the software industry directly impacts what the company does in solution to issues.
Microsoft enjoys so much power in the market for Intel-compatible PC operating systems that if it wished to exercise this power solely in monetary value of price, it could charge a price for Windows substantially above that which could be charged in a competitive market. Moreover, it could do so for a significant period of time without losing an unacceptable descend of business to competitors. In other words, Microsoft enjoys monopoly power in the applicable market (US vs. Microsoft).
The company has no compelling reason to implement dramatic improvements in Windows XP since they face no challenge in the marketplace.
The Microsoft competition cannot hope to defeat the giant in the OS market for the Intel-compatible computer system. The software firms generally compete in the area of add-on programs. This does not compel Microsoft to update Windows XP since they develop the program in such a manner to beat back consumers to utilize Microsoft products.
Currently there are no products, nor are there likely to be any in the come along future, that a significant percentage of consumers world-wide could substitute for Intel-compatible PC operating systems without incurring substantial costs.
