Egypt: Akhenaten

Ancient Egypt is full of mystery and speculation. It seems that just when it is thought that on that point is nothing more to discover, or to be learnt, that something advanced is effectuate or a new theory is proposed. The speculation is never ending. One particularly interesting period of time in Egypts history happened between the time of Pharaoh Akhenaten to the death of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. in that location is maven particular theory that is of interest from this time, and through interrogation into the background and evidence for this theory hopefully some findings can be drawn. The theory itself is that; Pharaoh Tutankhamuns notable funerary mask was not originally his but was his stepmother Nefertitis and was stolen from her tomb, then adapted for the boy king.

Akhenatens original do was Amenhotep the fourth, which in the fifth year of his reign he changed to Akhenaten. Akhenaten is listed as meaning Agreeable to the Aten. However, it is also translated to mean Beneficence of the Aten. Akhenatens main queen was named Nefertiti, and she ruled more or slight alongside him all throughout his reign. Akhenaten ruled during the eighteenth dynasty in the new kingdom c.1353 to 1334 BCE, as the tenth ruler of that dynasty.



At the time Akhenaten rose to become Pharaoh, Egypt was rich, and her empire was at its wind due to the successful conquest of Akhenatens grandfather, the Pharaoh Mitanni. This allowed Akhenaten to lead a life of luxury and concentrate on things at home, which resulted in Akhenatens radical new approach to religion. A new approach that was so radical it shook the whole country. Akhenaten rejected the worship of Amun and replaced him with Aten. This break with religion during his reign to the worship of one god, the sun god, Aten, led to much turmoil and conflict inside Egypt.
