This presentation seeks to talk over the works of Nicolás Guillén, principally the poem entitled West Indies, Ltd. and Cantaliso en un bar. I will attempt to demonstrate how Guillén used his poetry to highlight the problems of imperialism through the use of showcasing the wealthiness of the region by means of the inwrought resources, whether it be products or people, and the way in which the greed of the ‘Others’ exploited and abused the Afro-Cubans. The Afro-Cuban consider will also be discussed with comparisons to the lifestyle of the foreigners whom put downd and did not reside on the island.
